Comment: Hello, I have installed Windows 2000 Server with service pack 2, I have intalled Directory Services and have made my server as an Aditional Server of an existing domain. Actually the prpblem is when I tries to logging on to Server it takes too much time (Aprox 10 min) in Prepairing Network Connections. How can I get rid of this problem ? please solve my problem I will really be thankful to you.

Reply: (edit)It's probably a DNS problem. Make sure that in the properties of TCP/IP on the client, that it is pointing to the proper DNS server, probably the first domain controller.

Reply: (edit)In additional server?? Is this happening on only that machine? Which computer is running DNS? If Computer1 is running DNS and Computer2 is having the problem, do you have Computer2 looking to Computer1 as the Preferred DNS server in the Properties of TCP/IP? That is the most common cause of this problem so I just want to clarify that this part is set correctly.

Reply: (edit)This pretty much has to be a DNS problem. Before you ran dcpromo on your server to make it part of the domain, did you first change the domain suffix on it? This is done in: System Properties >> Network Identification tab >> Properties >> More >> "Primary DNS suffix of this computer" entry field. Also, check your spelling on the new server. A typo in the DNS suffix will create havoc as well.

Reply: (edit)My problem is pretty much the same, however mine starts from the server. It hangs when the screen "preparing network connections" appears. It takes a bit for the Control alt delete window to appear. What's up
