thumbnail view windows 2000

Subject: thumbnail view windows 2000
OS: Windows 2000 Pro
CPU/Ram: AthlonXP/512MB
Model/Manufacturer: home assembled
Comment:
Windows explorer in web view does not display a thumbnail view in either "standard" view or image view. I have verified that the registry entries for gif, jpg and bmp are correct according to Microsoft. These keys wer in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES It appears that maybe the new Paint Shop Pro version 11 from Corel may have caused this but they do not appear to know how to solve it. A file extension that is native to Paint Shop Pro is .pspimage. At one time this image type was the only one that would show up in the areas described above.

Any Ideas?

Had the same problem recently (thanks to Corel). Even though the keys are there, their values may be wrong. Copy/paste the following text files and rename them as .reg files and run them:

--------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp]
@="IrfanView.bmp"
"Content Type"="image/bmp"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp\ShellEx]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp\ShellNew-]
"NullFile"=""

--------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpe]
@="IrfanView.JPG"
"Content Type"="image/jpeg"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpe\ShellEx]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpe\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}"

-------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpeg]
@="IrfanView.JPG"
"Content Type"="image/jpeg"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpeg\ShellEx]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpeg\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}"

--------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg]
@="IrfanView.jpg"
"Content Type"="image/jpeg"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg\PersistentHandler]
@="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg\ShellEx]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}"

--------------

These will set Irfanview as your default viewer, but you can reset your viewer as you wish. This should fix your prob per MS Article ID : 192573

Thanks MacJr.,
Not sure that I understand what to do with the [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/bmp] @=IrFanView.bmp""content type"="image/bmp"

The ShellEx references check out OK.

Also [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp\ShellNew-]
"NullFile"=""

Not sure where the "nullFile"-"" goes. Am not a programmer but wish I was.

Thanks MacJr.,

I made a typo error in coping one of the strings, and disregarded your reference to
IrFranview.jpg, now it all works like it should thanks again for getting me started in the right direction.

Thumbnail view is enabled but unable to see some or all of the compatible images or HTML documents?

The below steps require you to enter the computer registry. Before following these steps we highly recommend you become aware of what the registry is and its precautions to prevent additional issues with your computer. Additional information about the registry can be found on our registry page.

To resolve this issue click Start / type:

regedit <press enter> (for Windows 98 / ME users).
regedt32 <press enter> (for Windows 2000 users).

Once in the system registry ensure that the below key value exist in the registry.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\<file type>\ShellEx\

Within each of these keys verify that the below value exists.

(default) = "{7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}"

If this value does not exist create it by following the below steps:

Within the key that the registry value does not exist click Edit / New / String value.
For New Value #1 type (default)
For the data copy the below bold text and paste it into your registry.

{7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}
Unable to see animated Gif's
Animated Gif's / images will only display the first frame of the picture and will not be animated.

Unable to see some JPEG files?

It is possible for JPEG (.JPG / .JPEG) to be created in four-channel, CMYK color format. Windows is only able to display .jpg files that are in three-channel RPG.

If you're unable to see any .JPG images the extension may be corrupt and may need to added into the registry. Windows 2000 users can add the below registry value if not already existing.

Open the registry by running the regedit command and move the the below registry directory.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg\ShellEx\

Next, move into the below directory if it exists. If this directory does not exist create a folder with the below name.

{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}

Once in the above directory. Click Edit, New, and click String Value. Double-click the new string and enter the below value.

{7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}

Finally, highlight the string, click Edit, and click rename and rename the string to "(Default)".
