Hello all,

As the name suggest, I am having a problem with a folder which I cannot open, search or delete (crashes explorer.exe, it takes several "end proccess" + restarts to get it working again). Furthermore, when I tried using AVG Antivirus 7.5 the scan crashes when it reaches this directory. AVG Antispyware 7.5 also crashes. Nevertheless, when using the antispyware "shredder" tool, I was able to get into the folder. When I tried to shred it, it deleted everything except for the folder itself and then the program died. I tried Trend Micro HouseCall (using IE and FireFox) and Symantic online antivirus (using IE only since it uses ActiveX) and in all 3 cases the browsers crashed when reaching the folder. I tried running scans/deletions in both normal and safe mode. Nothing works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Ilya

P.S.: Here is a log file from AVG Antispyware after it crashed:

Installed the unlocker, it died (program error) when trying to delete the folder, it found no locks. Dr. Watson was unable to attach to the proccess, Windows 2000 returned error code = 2.

when i tried to rename the folder it also failed because it couldn't find the source on disk. (the folder still shows up in explorer though)

Let's start again. What's the name of the folder in question? Have you seached google for that name? In what directory is it located? Have you tried to delete it in safe mode? Download and run msconfig. Disable everything in the startup. Then try to delete it again. Also, look in the registry for any strange things.

I have a simple solution to try

1) Create a Bart's PE bootable CD. Just search google for Barts PE and download and install it.

Burn a default Bart PE cd since you don't need network support.

Boot with the CD. Run Chkdsk /f.

then try to delete the folder from within the PE environment.

If it doesn't delete you most likely have bad sectors on your disk.
