I am running a Windows 2000 Advance Server with 2 Windows 2000 Pro stations and 1 Windows XP station. I want to be able to remote administer the server from one of the client stations using terminal services, but I have a couple of questions. I have been working on Servers for a while now, but this will be the first time I setup terminal services.
How do you setup the Server for Terminal Services? (Any articles, references, or advice would be great)
Do I need to purchase additional licenses for Terminal Services? I have my Windows 2000 Advanced Server with 5 licenses and each of my client stations have legally licensed version of Windows.
You help and advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mario

Technically, yes, you need a license per terminal server client. They're not concurrent or cheap, either. I'm not 100% about a workaround on that, either.
When you go to your user manager, you'll see a tab called "Terminal Services Profile". make sure the "Allow terminal server logon" box is checked. Also, I suggest you not cache the profile on your server. This takes up a LOT of space. Unless you've got tons of it, of course...
Finally, microsoft has a lot of TID's regarding the setup on their site. Term services does require 2 setup discs per workstation installation. It's quite simple.

The TS-client licenses are included with 2000pro and XP. For any other clients you should purchase client licenses. Any client needs a W2k-server CAL as usual.

Once again, the people who don't know are quick to answer. Michaels information is completely wrong.
You do not need an additional CAL as Rednose has pointed out. You don't need a CAL for remote admin mode which is what you are looking for. The check box to enable terminal services login is enabled by default.
To install terminal serviced go to Add/Remove Programs, Add Windows Components and look through the list. Terminal Services is at the bottom. You don't need to install the Terminal Services Licensing. During the install when it asks the mode, tell it you want to install in Remote Admin mode.
Then install the client on your computer and connect to it, or if using XP use the Remote Connection program to connect to it.
Good luck.
