remote desktop will not work to this 2000 server. I have installed terminal services, checked permissions and they are correct. There is no errors and I am clueless . This was installed in remote admin mode. Thanks any help would be appricated!

You need to include way more information than that if you want a resolution.

Okay sure, like what. I did all the typical steps and it doesnt work. Both computers are in the same network and there is all privledges needed. We even made the everyone group have full control. What would you like to know?

How about the precise error you get when you try an RDP from the client to the server assuming your using the TSclient for 2000 or RDP?

No using MSTSC from XP which you should be able to do.
"This computer cant connect to the remote computer."
Every computer gets this, and we have the everyone group as full control.

Is the client PC and server listening on Port3389? Are there any firewalls inbetween? Is the windows firewall on? If so turn it off or check the tab to allow RDP through its firewall.

Can you do a netstat on the server and see if it is listening on 3389

Then you need to look at your server configuration as you clearly have it configured incorrectly if the server is not listening on 3389. TS for Windows 2000 needs to be installed from add and remove programs. I presume you did it from there?

If netstat -an does not show the server as listening on 3389 then as iv already said you need to look at your servers configuration. As if that port isnt listening on 3389 then Terminal Services cannot have been installed correctly.

He`s referring to the command line. MSTSC is what you would launch from "run" or the command line and this will invoke the native RDP client 5.2 thats part of the XP build. RDP itself though is multi platform and can be installed separately on almost any Windows distro. XP can connect to 2000 Terminal Servers. The problem is with his install. The server is not listening on 3389. Therefore its not installed or configured properly. He should be able to remote to the localhost locally by opening RDP.
