Comment:

I have some Windows XP clients that are getting Terminal Service license errors. Windows 2000/XP has a built in license, so what gives?

Application popup: Terminal Services Warning : Your terminal services temporary client license will expire in 4 days.
Please contact your system administrator to get a permanent license.

Thank you,

Even though Windows 2000 and Windows XP don't use up one of your licenses, you are still going to need to purchase and install at least one Terminal Server Client Access License pack. In my opinion Microsoft fubared this one. Not only do you have to purchase the license but it is done on a machine basis and not by clients in use. I'll get someone that logs in via the tsweb client or from a win9x/winnt machine while away on business and that license is used up for around 2 months until it finally clears. You can contact Microsoft and have them reset the license but that is a pain.

That isn't true.

Win2000 & WinXP both have built-in TSCAL's so a Terminal Server Access License is not needed unless you have Win98 machines using the W2K Terminal Server.

You do however still need a Server license for each machine that uses that server

NM, I figured it all out. They need to be activated via the WWW option.
