Hi,
I have a win2k system, that connects to the internet using broadband via an Ethernet connection.
For the last year, there have been no problems.... but then I rebooted on Thursday night...
I now am unable to connect to the internet.... I plug the cable modem into the network card.. and select automatically detect settings in the internet options, and hoped it would work... nope.
I then went into dos.. and found I cannot run ipconfig... I get ordinal 1001 can not be found in wsock32.dll. So I deleted the winsock2 protocol from the registry.. and allowed it to rebuild it on start up - nothing.
The computer will connect to the router... but I cannot obtain an IP address... which is why I think I am having problems.
I have tried repairing windows 2k... using the repair untility on the disk - but nothing.
What else can I do.?
I even tried a new installation of windows.... nothing.
Also can I delete the new version of windows? And how can I remove it from the select windows system, on start up?
Many thanks
Elliot

Have you tried replacing the network card?
If you installed new version in a different folder - ie, not \winnt, then to delete, just remove the folder you installed it in and edit boot.ini to remove the entry which points to that folder (when logged on old installation of course).

have you tried to re-install the tcp/ip protocol stack. when winsock craps out it usually means tcp/ip has been corrupted
good luck
