Subject: Taskbar and Icons Disappear?OS: Dell Dim 8100CPU/Ram: 128MB/ 1.3 ghz |
Comment: Hello, Here is my problem, I have installed windows 2000 on my system last week, because I spent so much time online without any Anti-Spware program, my pc got loaded with spyware, so I booted to Safemode and ran SpyBot,HiJackThis, and CWshredder to clean out the junk. With HiJackThis I took out the stuff that I thought are junk... So today, I was trying to enter control panel so I could get to the administrative tools, and each time I do that the icons on my desktop disappears and also the taskbar. I tried to restart and logged on into different account no luck... All programs that are maximized are still functional and the Task Manager is also accessible. I remember when I first install the OS I entered control panel with no trouble.. Whats the problem here? Thanks MeenXo

Reply: (edit)Please post the hijack this log, along with what you took out. Sounds like you removed a critical win 2k file. Have you booted from the win 2k cd, and attempted to repair? Do not start repair from the first prompt, but continue as if you were installing a new windows, without formatting of course. It should find your current windows, and then give you the option to repair. Use thet to see about restoring any missing files. Steve
