Taskbar acting weird; won't autohide & m

Can't get my taskbar in Win2000 Professional to disappear even though I've checked the AutoHide option. Also tried to uncheck the AutoHide option but it automatically turns itself back on. I've also tried unchecking the OnTop option but that has no effect--the taskbar is still stuck on.
Please help. The taskbar is blocking out the status bar on several apps. Only choice seems to be to resize the taskbar to a zero height.
