I know there is a way but I forgot.
I would like to take that little 'turn around' arrow on the shortcut icons on my desktop and make them look like the actual program. I've done it before... Just a long time ago

uselessmitch, If you don't want to use Tweak UI here's another method.
1. Right-click the desktop and select Properties. 2. Select the Appearance tab 3. From the drop down box labeled "Item" select "Icon" 4. Change the size from 32 to 30 The little arrows are gone!

Fine, I quite accept that you want to get shot of them which is your choice of-course.
Note however that you will no longer have an obvious way to differentiate between programs and shortcuts. Shortcuts can be deleted harmlessly, programs cannot. That is why MS included the shortcut arrow.
Programs are better installed into a folder rather than onto the desktop, particularly if you are getting rid of the shortcut arrows.
