Comment:

I have noticed a "systm.pif" running in my process list, and I suspect it is a virus. I'm pretty sure it's responsible for opening mstask command prompt windows every once in a while, which I know is something some viruses will do. I can't tell what else it's doing exactly. The worst part is that "systm.pif" (I've rechecked the spelling many times just to be sure) cannot be found ANYWHERE on the entire internet! If you type it in Google, Yahoo, or whatever it doesn't pull up any results. I've also done local searches on the computer to try to delete it, but still nothing comes up. I was able to end the process once, but then it came right back and now it says "Access is denied" when I try to end it! Also, virus and spyware scans come up with nothing. What is this thing?!! Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks.

No, not system.pif. Systm.pif is what I'm looking for. I'm pretty sure they're not the same thing. I also did a local search for that one too with no results. I even searched for all .pif files and only three came up, none of them even close to what I'm looking for. Thanks though.

Google returned a few results when I searched for Systm.pif. Question though, what anti-virus program and spyware programs are you running if any?????

Yeah, it looks like this is a brand new virus to me because a few results are coming up now like you said, but before there were absolutely none. The antivirus program I'm using is McAfee Enterprise with lastest updates, and the spyware program is Microsoft AntiSpyware with latest updates as well.

Well, it looks like I was right. It was in fact a virus, and it must have been brand new also. Previous virus scans came up with nothing, but after updating the virus database yet again it seemed to find and delete all parts of the virus with no problems. It seems like everything is working just fine now.
