You might've already done this, but click Start, Run..., type "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes) and click OK. If you want to know the other switches, run cmd (Start, Run...) and type "sfc /?" (again, without the quotes).
I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm stating the obvious,

Thanks for reply. Have enabled sfc/enable in cmd line ,but on reboot,running sfc/scannow get the message; 'can't find file or one of it's component'. altho it's listed in system32/dll cache. more assistance needed! Thanks
