Switching from Domain to Workgroup

I have a PC from work that they no longer use. I am trying to set it up with no password and as a stand alone PC (I can log in with a password now). Normally I would right click on My Computer, Properties, Network Identification, Properties, and then pick Workgroup instead of Domain. However the Workgroup and Domain options are greyed out. How do I get these options to work?

Just set up a new network connection in control panel my network. When that is working delete the old network connection.

The network connection you're using has nothing to do with this. The workgroup and domain options are greyed out because your user account doesn't have permission to change them. You'll need to obtain the Local Admin account name and password and then logon locally, then change the login type from Domain to Workgroup.

Mmmm. Okay, by setting up a new network connection the wizard takes you through the steps to create a workgroup or a domain connection and it also has you set up the IP address etc which is *** likely** to be different then the current settings.

You missed the point of needing a admin account. With it you don't have to do what you describe. What you describe can't happen without the admin account.
