Alot of the time when I connect to the internet using Internet Explorer 6, I get the message, "svchost.exe has generated errors and has been closed by Windows."
I don't know what this is or what to do about it. Any thoughts?

SVCHOST is a windows 2000 (+ xp) system service used for network connections and I beleive some TCP/IP protocall handling.
I would suggest you re-apply the latest Service pack for windows as i think this has been updated - then re-install IE6.
Remember to do a windows update to update IE6 after re-intalling.

Sounds like you have the Blaster Worm
I reccomend downloading the fix
www.sarc.com
and the patch
www.microsoft.comFirst run the fix THEN once the system
is clean fun the patchGood luck

actually sounds like you have the W32.Welchia.Worm, you can downoad the fix tool from symantec.com

i experienced the same problem lately...first occurs after connecting to the internet, then even without connecting.
1.i had windowsupdate scanned my system and it said there's no critical patches or updates needed.
2.i ran Symantec AND Mcafee's removal tools
for blaster and Welchia worm...nothing found,
though I did find blaster and Nachi worm virus and had the removal tool remove them.now the problem's still there, the same error msg pops up right after the system starts up...any input?

svchost crashes when the blaster worm attempts to invade from a remote computer but guesses wrongly which OS you are running .. it's not encoded to discover which OS so it guesses .. and guessing wrongly causes SVCHOST to crash ... search for msblast patch from microsoft and also read the articles on symantecs sight .. theres 3 ports that need 2 b hidden or stealthed to stops it finding your pc from an infected machine remotely ..
good luck
