After a few mins connected to the web a box shows stating that an svchost.exe error occured. I cant send emails and cant edit documents. I was infected by the wormblast virus, however had the antivirus which detected and cancelled it. Can anyone kindly tell me what I have to do in order to fix the problem.
Thanks
chc

Did you remove the entry from the registry and delete the file out of the systemroot/system32 folder?

Use the removal tool first, download and install the security patch and scan your computer again with the anti-virus program with the latest dat files

had the svchost.exe error, followed thisthread to get the msoft patches - all
seems ok now BUT....
problem is - i cannot find offending
worm/virus/whatever
my AV NORTON 2002 - updated ( which did not
protect me in the first place ) shows
nothing on a scan - also did a remote scan
from symantec and from house call with
nothing found ... BUT ran the symantec tool
fixblaster in safe mode and got this
cryptic reply
================================
The file "20 us at niagara falls ....
boston" was not scanned.The file "......... was not scanned.
The file "C:\ was not scanned.
W32.Blaster.Worm has not been found on your
computer.
=================================
although things seem ok - i think i stillhave something here - any suggestions?
thanks

I am having close to the same problem. Had the wormblast virus a month ago. Upgraded to Norton Antivirus 2003- got rid of that virus. Started having problems a few days ago with the same svchost.exe messages. Trouble with editing documents, internet connections with passwords etc. I ran a full system scan and it indicated 7 infected files with autoupder virus and download trojan and Backdoor Trojan. Norton Antivirus would not fix, quarantine or delete any of the files. Downloaded the autoupder fix tool - that did not work and in fact indicated the virus was not present despite the scan. Followed the Symantec instructions on manually deleting the files in safe mode but the files that it said should be there were not. The scan indicates all of my infected files are in Local Settings/ Temp / .... then followed by a file number such as 5DFF22.tmp. Do I go back to the registry and manually delete those files or what? Nothing else seems to be working but my problems are rapidly overtaking my pc. Any help would be appreciated!

I went start, search, search files and folders, and wrote svchost. 2 programs resulted. I scanned them with my antivirus (norton 2003), however no results of infections were found. I tried to delete the files but couldnt delete one of them.. so i did undo delete. This procedure was done before connecting to the web. when i tried to connect a msg told me that no modem was found in the system. So I restarted my pc. Till now the problem seems solved, i can edit word, send emails and no box showing that an error occured showed up.
Hope it would help you too!

We started getting this message at our shop also. One of the sites I was on suggested loading the following patch.
http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/ms03-026.asp

I have the same problem, no antivirus detect the problem. Sometimes the error apperar after a few seconds of connection. Other times it doesn't appear...
The patch doesn't work
