svchost.exe error messages

after installing windows 2000 pro I am getting the error message svchost.exe has genetated errors and will close. this occurs after going on the internet for 2 or 3 minutes

This usually follows infection with MSBlast worm.
Kill the worm then apply security updates from the MS site, should then go back to normal.

Hi there,
Having the same problem, but have already scanned for the worm with the Norton AntiVirus tool....still getting the annoying svchost.exe error. Also have tried to figure out if Novell Groupwise was ever installed, not the case. So any other options? I'm tapped out! Thanks so much in advance :)

It's not just the MSBlast virus that causes that message. The Gaobot virus also behaves much in the same way. Boot into safe mode and do a full virus scan on your system.
