I've upgraded to windows 2000 on my gateway laptop with 96megs of RAM. During boot svchost.exe is showing 100% CPU usage and bringing the system to a crawl! It takes about 10 minutes to get through this period and then things seem to work OK - but I do notice other similar slow downs like when accessing the network throug explorer. I'm running Service pack 1 Windows 2000 pro. I run in safe mode with no such slow downs.
Help!
Thanks,
Mark

I have a Dual CPU PIII-550 system with 196mgs of SDRAM and I seem to remember that my system uses 100% of the CPU on bootup too. It's been awhile since I looked at that but you have to remember Win2K is a massive program. If everything where written in Assembly Language then instead of useing 10 or 20 gigs of Harddrive we would use 80mbs and instead of takeing 30 sec. to 2 minutes to bootup it would be instantanious.
Microsoft has done a terrific injury to the world by making us so dependent on this Window Software. I'll stop there because I feel an acke in my neck when I think of this s---.

i got the same problem, i really got no clue where i can fix that ... svchost.exe is taking 100% system ressources all the time and my lan-internet-connection is no more working. pinging ips works, but my dns isn't. (ping 212.312.000.... works, but ping www.something.com doesn't. i got the same network settings like another computer in the same network, which works... please help ...

I have the same problem but it only starts happening after many hibernate/standby's. I always keep the same applications open: emacs, bash, iexplorer, Columbine Bookmark Merge, MSWord, EndNote, Palm Desktop.
At the moment, I can either wait continually longer (20 minutes this morning) after each wakeup or reboot. The problem usually takes a few hibernates/standby's to show up.
