My "svchost.exe" generates errors every time I start windows. After it does I can't open my Norton firewall or antivirus software, much less update virus definitions. Other things go awry also. I don't have the "msblast" worm I have already checked. Any ideas as to why this happens?

well, buddy looks like u do have the msblaster. if u used the symantec removal tool to check, it usually dont come up with any results. just download the microsoft patch and u'll be fine =)
and if ur programs arent working after it pops up, is because its taking up ur virtue memory.

win2k machine generating svchost.exe errors each time I restart. I see two instances of svchost.exe in the task manager. Norton AV produces a clean scan. Search of hard drive does not find any hits for msblast.exe. Am in the process of instaling SP4 for win2k pro and will install the kb823980 patch after that.

I can not print from IE 5.5, no cut and paste, Win Media player bugs out- will not work- DSL line goes from 1.2 meg to about 32k after 5 minute connection. SBC just left the house, could not resolve the issue- line tests fine inside the house and out.

any insight is appreciated.

I'm in the same situation.
I've only installed recently Explorer 6.0 and I get the error when I start outlook.
After I can't close the session or I can't move or copy messages.
Please, let me know the progresses.
Thanks.
Vito

After a long match with my W/2000 and all the garbage on the matter I've solved my SVCHOST problem. It seems that it work correctly now.

Action done:
1) elininated MSBLATER ren it as MSBLASTARDO
2) reinstalled IE 6
3) applied the MS03-026-823980
4) installed ZoneAlarm 3.0.

My opinion is that none is sure of what happen. The time of the strong MVS are finished.

Good luck

Vito
