Hi Guys,
I've got an old system running 2000 sp4 on an Athlon 1GHz. It's always been very reliable...a few hard disk failures but nothing else. However the last two days it's decided to just shut down at any given moment, instantly. No Blue screen, just complete shutdown followed by a restart, all of it's own accord? I've checked the event log to see if anything is registered...not a thing, it doesn't even list the shutdown, only the restart. It's literally like I've pressed the 'Reset' button.

Any ideas???...one extra bit of info...it seems to have happened only when using the network (either on the web or transfering files across machines)...this may not be relevant but worth a mention I think.

Any help as always will be very gratefully recieived. Many Thanks, Rich

It could be 1000 reason for the shutdown

As u r telling, it restarts quickly; it might not creating a dump..

Follow these instruction if u want ur server up and running

1)Open regedit> HKLM > system > current control set > control > crash control > And change the value of Auto reboot to 0 if its 1.

After this whenever server reboots it will create full dump and give u "Stop 0x00...code

Mail me the complete code and then i will deffinately help u on this

Secondly,
visit link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=cebf3c7c-7ca5-408f-88b7-f9c79b7306c0&displaylang=en

and download MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE (size 766) and execute it and send me the cab file created after running this.I will analyse the log files and i will give u the solution of your server's problem

Best of Luck

dont do that, never edit your registry for something like this.

Scan your computer for virusses. This sounds like the blaster worm virus.

I bet i am 99% sure
