Win2k server + clients.

I selected the security tab for a network drive, gave everyone full control, ticked "Allow inheritable permissions from parent..." and clicked ok.

Now no files on this drive are accessible on the network. It seems no one has permission, including administrator.

When I tried to access the security tab for any file on this drive (as administrator), I got a message saying I didn't have the necessary permission to modify the permissions. I had to take ownership, delete existing permissions, and set up new one. There are 100,000s files, I cannot possibly do this for every file. Setting new permission for a folder does not set the permission for files within that folder. How can set permission on a folder that will also change all child objects?

This is really urgent. The network is completely inaccessable now.

WTF happened???

Thanks.

Continued from above...

In the security options for a folder, I selected "Advanced" and ticked "Reset permission on all child objects etc..." and got the error message "An error occured applying security information to (FILENAME). Access is denied". I got this message for every file.

Please help.

Thanks.

Ouch. Try resetting the permissions on the physical drive and then work your way down. If you go to drive x and then right-click and select Properties, then the security tab, and then the advanced button at the bottom and then check reset persmissions on all child objects... then set the permissions on the folder located in the drive and do the same. Good Luck.

Hey all,

Stupid is just how I feel. I was setting the share permissions and security access rights on a folder for a user today... Well, I think I got distracted and removed "Everyone" from the Security tab instead of the Shared tab. Now I get "Access Denied" every time I try to open the folder. I have tried to take ownership and reset permissions on all child objects... and still get "Access Denied". Does anyone know how to get the files out of a folder like this?
