Stretching wallpaper w/o distortion

Does anyone know the pixel height and width, ratio that a bmp file needs to be so that when you stretch it the picture is not distorted as wallpaper in Windows XP? Even better would be a program that does this for you.

If you right click on your Desktop and select Properties, Settings tab you will see your current screen resolution. If your background image is the same size as that setting then it will be perfect.
Anything less than those numbers will need to be strectched to fit causing distortion in the displayed image.
If your desired image is larger than you can use an image editor program to resize it to your desired resolution.
