In my search to protect myself from spam, spyware, and the like I have all but stopped using IE. I've used Avant for a few months with no problems. I have it on one computer still, but started using Foxfire on my primary.
to the problem...
My first run in:
Downloading large (30mb) updates to a program across a wireless setup to my cable internet. The downloading of the update would freeze up after about 20 seconds. If I was browsing (or just using F5 on a webpage) it would continue ok. Thought it was a problem with the wireless. This system uses Avant.
Today i'm downloading sp4 (for 2000) on my primary computer with foxfire and it does the same thing. This computer is hard wired to my firewall so there's no wireless to worry about. Since both computers are doing it I'm thinking it's my firewall (108 airlink from Fry's)

I'm surprised you're even able to start an update download with any browser but IE. Microsoft has it set up to only allow IE users to use windows update. Or, at least the last time I checked, that's the way it was.
Have you tried downloading the updates using IE?

Sorry, should have been more clear. Wasn't a microsoft update. It was the update for motorola phone utility.

I'm not sure then. I've been using mozilla firefox almost exclusively for a while now, and I've never had any trouble downloading anything.
Sorry

I've had this problem as well. Seems to be only when using my wireless network. Plugged into a cable, downloads work fine.
Odd - you don't get any error. The download (or at least the Download status bar) stops moving or counting down.
