when i open up NETWORK AND DIAL UP SERVICES, there's nothing shown. but i know i've got 2 NIC as when i do a ipconfig /all at DOS, i'm able to see them.
besides this, when i open up SERVICES, right click PROPERTIES on any of the services, there's nothing shown. But when i try to close the SERVICES window, it prompts me to close the PROPERTIES DIALOG box first but i cant see any!

That is odd, and I can't find anything on the M$ database on that. The only thing that comes to mind might be a dialer trying not to die. Try running AdAware or Spybot (I list both only not to start a AdAware vs. Spybot fantaics war). Oh, and an anti-virus. Let us know if nothing comes up.
