hey, i am having the problem...could somebody please suggest me something for this problem i.e. how to stop user from deleting the files and the shortcuts...can i do that without changing the registry or i don't know...please suggest me something regarding this problem...thanks

If your running 2000 and have converted the file system to NTFS you can easily do this by using the built int NTFS security.
Remove the Everyone Group from all shares and then assign access on a 'per user' basis. Give them access only to the areas where you wish the users to have access granting them Read Only permission.
