I was getting the same problem under Maxtor 20 Gig DiamondMax hard drive (ATA-33) that I am currently running on. Could that have something to do with my hard drive? I tried to install in both FAT and NTFS modes on the 20 gig and both had shown me the same error over and over again...
I have KT7 motherboard with VIA 133 chipset, AMD 800Mhz Thunderbird Socket A and 128 mb ram.
Are you using the supplied disk that can with the mobo to install the correct controllers for either ata66/100?
At the first setup screen press f6 - then use the disk to install the third party drivers so Win2K can identify your mobo controllers.
And while you are at it, get the AMD patch from their site for Win2K or the system will crash excessively due to the inability of Win2K to properly read info from your agp video display via the AMD chipset - both Duron and Athlon.
