Stop 7F on Normal Boot

OS: Windows 2000 SP4
CPU/Ram: Intel P4 1.5ghz
Comment:

Normal boot results in "Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap" double-fault error. Safe mode boots ok. MS troubleshooting indicates a CPU problem. If this is the case, why does safe mode boot OK? Anyone, have any input?
