Subject: Still cannot get rid of Logon screen |
Comment: Yesterday, I asked how to get rid of the log on screen and said that I wasn't sure of the best way because I had read conflicting ideas on this in doing a search on previous questions on the subject. I had gotten the answer to "Make sure the "Users Must Enter a User Name and Password to use This Computer" - BOX - is Unchecked" I did that and now it's worse. I don't know what I did but now I have two clicks to make instead of one. When the screen first comes up, the box is not active and an error type message overlays it which says, "LOGON MESSAGE" The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are correct, then type your password again, etc, etc". This message has an OK button which when clicked, activates the logon box and then allows me to just click OK on it and proceed as usual. If I can't get rid of the logon screen, how can I at least get rid of this error message necessitating two clicks now instead of one. It's a stand alone computer, Pentium 4, Win2K. Thanks again for any help.

Reply: (edit)Go to the control panel. Double click on Users and Passwords. Put a checkmark in Users Must Enter a User Name and Password to use This Computer. Click apply. How many users do you have listed in the Users for this computer box? Highlight the one that you usually log on with... For instance if you usually log on as Administrator... highlight that one. If you usually log on as yourself or another user name in the list... hightlight that one. After the correct user is highlighted, untick the Users Must Enter a User Name and Password to use This Computer box. Click apply>>ok>>and reboot to test. It sounds like the user that you highlighted does not have a valid account.

Reply: (edit)Look for the key in the registry called "AutoAdminLogon". Make the value '1'. Ensure that the "DefaultUserName" is specified as the userid to logon. Furthermore ensure the "DefaultPassword" is correct.

Reply: (edit)Recommending to edit the registry do the users in here is not the best advice. Newgrls advise if much better and accomplishes the same thing without the risk of registry editing. Just my opinion
