When I start my computer, windows boots up normally. It logs on the user, loads settings etc. But it never gets to the point where it loads the desktop. Its just an hourglass for about 10 seconds then an arrow. I can see my desktop background, but no start bar or icons anywhere.
I figured out that I could open applications through the tast manager and I ran Nortons to see if it was a virus, but it was clean.
Im pretty sure its a problem with explorer, because it happened once before and i did an "end process" to explorer, then reopened it and it worked. Thats not working this time.

Hi there.
It sounds like a program/process is running in the background when you logon and causing the PC to slow for one reason or another. I would download a copy of MSconfig for Win2000 and check out 'start up' to see what is being loaded.
Good luck

I tried it but to no avail. I think I'll just back everything up and reinstall. Wish it was easier :P
