Hello, I'm trying to help a friend get rid of some spyware programs which are named "Advanced Antivirus" & "Virustrigger". Every time we go to a website to try and download a program to get rid iof them we get redirected back to one of the spyware programs websites offering bogus programs to get rid of the virus/spyware. We need help please! What program/programs do we need to get rid of these headaches? Thanks in Advance!

Try booting into safe mode with network support. If that doesn't work then download from a different computer and burn to CD. Get any updates at the same time.

edit

Try spybot search & destroy.

Thanks Othehill, I've managed to download a couple programs (Malwarebytes & Spybot S& D) on my computer and then burn them to CD and install them on my friends computer. Last night I was able to run the Malwarebytes program, but without updating it. It found 71 imfected files. Today I updated the program and tried to run it, but it kept freezing up after it'd find about 17 infected files, so I then ran Spybot S&D and it found 64 infected files. I'm now in the process of runnig the Malwrebytes program again and it just froze up again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hi OtheHill, I was running them in Safe Mode with Network Support. Should I be running them in just plain "Safe Mode"?? Hanks in Advance.

I don't know if that would make a difference. Try it. Download CCleaner and use the cleaner and registry moldules. May be able to stop the lockups.

Ok first remove any antivirus or antispyware progs you have on that rig (probably infected) then go d/l avast a/v at avast.com also d/l superantispyware at superantispyware.com might as well get tweaknow regcleaner (google it) and last but not least threatfire. Ok first install avast, when its installed let it run a boot scan (it will ask you to). Then install superantispyware. Update both. Let super run a deep scan. Then tweaknow (only use default settings) then threatfire. Avast is an a/v prog that actually kills a lot of spyware. All are free just need to register avast. After all this if yuo still have issues d/l and run hijackthis. You have a bho that probably came from a little bug ;) g/l

on the road again!!
