3 things I can't get rid of using Spybot 1.9 or Hijackthis. 1) xxxtoolbar. show up in add/remove, but won't remove. 2) TV-T Media Display. Same as the other one, wont remove from add/remove. 3) MemoryMeter. installs to c:/progfiles/memorymeter. I can remove it or delete it but it seems to reinstall it self. Both the spyware remove progs I used do not get rid of these. what should I do?

After you remove those items, try running a registry defrag program.

Try adaware by lavasoft. It scans your system and lets you delete ad ware and spyware. It works great and its free.

These programs are not being completely removed because there are still left over remnants of them in your registry.

I agree with jetforce. Adaware is one of the best free adware removers I've seen.

After removing these programs in add/remove are there program folders with files in them showing in Internet Explorer?

I had a similar problem with Norton System works 2003. There is a bug in the program that shows double scheduled jobs that cannot be changed or deleted. I first tried to uninstall the program and then reinstall, No Luck.
The second try worked BUT I also did a serach of my entire system for any instance of Norton AND Symantec. This also included searching the Registry using Regedit32. Any thing that showed up was deleted.
Now this is a drastic measure but sometimes a manual unistall of programs is nesscessary.
Also AdAware version 5.83 (this is the free one with no features disabled) as "freedom" stated will do the best job. Run it after you do a manual uninstall.
If you try going to:
http://www.oldversion.comYou may be able to find this particular version there.

For the record. Spybot is tons better than Adware. Run Adware and after it says things are clean, run Spybot and see how much stuff it finds. It also immunizes your system so the same things don't come back again. And it's free too.

To remove those pesty programs you have to hack the registry.

MAKE BACKUPS FIRST !!!

Click start, run, type in regedit hit enter. press CTL +F to pop up the find box, type in the name of the program to remove and hit enter. When you find the key with the program in it, delete it. continue with find next and delete all keys for those programs.

BE CAREFUL AND DELETE ONLY THOSE AND NOTHING ELSE.

Making a mistake in the registry can hose up your whole system, be careful.
