Comment:

When my computer boots up, I get the following error:

"Spoolsv.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."

I cannot install or uninstall printers. I can search for the Spoolsv.exe file & double click it to restart it, but it doesn't help. How do I fix it?

Did you check the error log to see why it caused an error?

I went to the website & installed the security patch above. I also installed any other patches available. The error still appears...what now?

I had the same problem here is how you fix it.
Run regedit
go to:
hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\print
you should see all of your installed printer drivers there as folders, click on each folder one at a time so it is highlighted then press the 'delete' key. this will remove all of your printer drivers. exit regedit and reboot. You should not get the error anymore and you should be able to re-install your printer. Hope this helps!

I have the same error as above. Howeer, I have not found print under the registry in hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows

The problem is on a windows 2k, OS but I could not even find the print folder in my other win 98 SE registry.

Hi

Is there any more information on the above for Win2k. I have the same issue and cannot find the part of the registry that is mentioned to delete the printer drivers.

Thanks

Hi,

I have the same problem. The spoolsv.exe error message is constantly occurring. Restarting the program from service is not helping and similarly as Sidney above I can not find print under the registry in hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows

This problem started after I installed some programs including Microsoft Office XP Professional. I have removed all programs, but the problem is persistent. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem. I cannot find the print folder in my registry either. When I go to add a printer it says "printer operation cannot continue due to lack of resources". No printer drivers seem to be present in my printer folder yet I can't add a printer. What do I do?

Any help would be appreciated.

I figured it out! The print folder was in my windows nt folder not windows. After you remove the printer driver present in the folder and reboot. The problem seems to go away and it allowed my to add a new printer driver. Hope this helps someone else too.
