I have a Lexmark 5700 that was working fine under Windows 2000 using NT drivers (2000 drivers aren't out yet). Then I had a paper problem and the program stopped working, no everytime W2K loads up, it has an error in spoolsv.exe...I try to add a printer but it says the printing subsystem is not available...what can I do? I even tried reinstalling Windows and reinstalling the printer from disk...to no avail. Help me please!

Sean,
Did you do an upgrade from NT to 2000? If so you might try reinstalling NT first, rebuild the system and then doing the upgrade again. It sounds like because of the error that 2000 tried to reload the drivers and since the drivers apparently aren't compatible with 2000....

okay, I would assume that you don;t want to redo your entire system. The problem that is when the spooling service crashes, it kills a part of the registry. If you e-mail me I have instructions that might help. They are for NT 4.0, but they should also apply to 2000

Hello,
could you give me your advise, too? I have the same problem. I had a Deskjet 500 and a cheyenne bitware fax driver installed with nt 4 and then updated...

I have upgraded from NT (to WIN 2000) for which I didn't have any printers installed...then when going through the setup for 2000 the error message
spoolsv.exe program must be restarted came up..
so I tried a second time and just kept going when the message came up again..
I too have the Cheyanne Bitware fax driver on NT before upgrading...
I will follow the advise and install NT then uninstall the drivers for Bitware...then put 2000 over the top and see if the spoolsv.exe error rears it's ugly head again...But I'd appreciate any other suggestions if you can e-mail me at
spaggetti@hotmail.com

Hi!
I got the same problems on a clean
install of Win2000 Pro after installing
Cheyanne Bitware 3.
Uninstalling Bitware and reinstalling win2k
did not help!

Could someone send me the fix info for this. The MS site has one function -- totally useless! Thanks.

I to have the spoolsv.exe error but only after trying to remove Cheyenne Bitware which appears to be the common denominator. The Problem is BWPRNMON which is in the Bitware\NT folder I dont know how to remove it. when I attempt to remove my HP OfficeJet 1150C from Hardware before re-installing with Windows 2000 Drivers, Windows says [Can not remove this device because its descendants refused the request] How do you find out who the descendants are! where they live so they can be evicted. There must be an easier way than surgery Patient Blakey

I have the same problem to. Win NT, Bitware Fax, Upgrade to Win 2000 and all Print functions go away. Please publish the fix.

I'm beginning to feel not quite so alone. I
tried installing W2000 so as to have the
choice between W98 and W2000, but as it
stands my W2000 gives me the spoolsv.exe
error you all are having. What to do?

I've seen this many times I this site, someone else has posted this fix:
I HAVE THE FIX TO THE SPOOLSV.exe error..delete the following registyr key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-2] the Version-2 did it to and for me.
This is only a WIN 2K fix....repeat only a WINDOWS 2000 FIX

Got the same problem after upgrading from NT to WIN2K. No BitWare installed, registry checked.. spoolsv keeps crashing. I think there was a canon lbp 800 installed on the NT system. Don't know for sure because it's not my own computer. Clean install is not a solution for me. Anyone got a better one?
There doesn't seem to be any hardware conflict either.
