sp3 + winlogon.exe error

doing a clean install of win2kpro. all goes well until sp3 is installed, then the os goes to a BSOD w/ continual rebooting, OR, if sp3 manages to completely install, i get a "winlogon.exe has generated errors...' i've replaced the 3dfx video card w/ a diamond, and replaced the 8-chip ram w/ 16chip (2x128mb). i've also been swapping between 2 nics- same results! any suggestions???
