I'm not completely sure if her pc is an HP but I'm tryign to do this over the phone!
She can't get her volume to work, even when she went through the control panel, it's unable to be moved up or down.

Need a lot more information than that my old Buddy.
What O/S? Sound Card or on MoBo. If so what MoBo.
Does sound work at all even if can't control volume?
i.e. tell us what's really happening and to what and we just might be able to help you.
Regards
Stuart

Ditto Stuart. Need more information.. When did the problem start, or didn't it ever work? Are the speakers plugged into the A/C outlet and to the Sound Card?
