Hello:
I am having problems with my sound card. Whenever I boot Windows 2000 or Windows 98 SE, the middle port is used for both operating systems. Running either causes no problem with the sound card.
However, when I switch to WinNT4.0 or XP Pro, which is on the second hard disk, I have to remove the speaker plug and place it in the third port. When I want to run Win2K again, I have to go back to the rear of the pc and move the speaker cable back to the middle port. Is it possible to run all these Windows OSes from one single port, which is the middle port? Or should I buy a sound card and install it in one of three empty PCI slots?

IF the port is configurable then you just need to reconfigure it to the middle port for all. I have integrated sound like that. the software resides in the tray by the clock. I can pretty much use any of the ports for anything. When I connect speakers the software opens and confirms what I am doing. Maybe you sound is the same.
