Ok, here's the deal: I had a Gateway E-3400 that I updated the BIOS on, FDISKed the drive, and installed W2K. It worked fine, no bugs, no glitches, nothing after I got all the drivers and stuff insatlled. I FDISKed the drive later on and master boot record and installed Win98 (off a cd and those annoying restore disks) and kept having problems. Whenever the system seems to do a restart, or soft boot it won't come back up. I don't even get the POST screens or anything. It just sits there. I have to manually turn off the power, and then turn it back on for the thing to boot. I also tried resetting the BIOS back to defaults in case there were some settings I had missed wandering through it the first time. I tried reinstalling W2K on the machine and it STILL does it!! Anyone have any ideas?

i don't know if this helps but make sure the right drive is active. You probably want to have the drive with windows 2000 be the active drive. You can change the active drive by starting with a boot disk that gets you to a dos prompt and going into fdisk read through the options and look for the one to set the active drive. select the appropriate drive, restart ,and remove the floppy. if that doesn't work you can always change the active drive to what it originally was and try something else.
good luck.

Finally got it running. It was either the NVRAM needing to be reset, or else one of the cards was loose, cause I went through and unslotted them all and then reslotted them (including the processor and mother board risers).
