Comment:

Whenever I re-boot my laptop (e.g. after software installation), it boots up fine until the win2k logo comes on the screen. Then it hangs there forever. The blue bars at the bottom of the screen reaches approximately 70-75% when it hangs (always at the same point). At that point, I have to turn off the machine and hard boot. I never have this problem on hard boot.

Is there a way to resolve this problem?

You "may" have a failing RAM stick..., the power-down/up temporarily resolving the problem - 'til next time you do a soft boot?

If possible try a fresh known good stick of RAM and see if it resolves it. Being a laptop this may not be an easy option, but it would be a useful item to investigate.
