For some reason my sound quit working.
Sndcol32.exe will not open or respond to clicking. Can anyone help or give me pointers on what I need to do to repair this, or where I can download and replace the file.

thanks

The same thing has happened to my sndvol32.exe file. I've tried replacing the file, but that doesn't seem to help. It still doesn't want to open though it try's for a moment. I believe the file is fine but that something else in windows is keeping it from executing properly.

JUST RE INSTALLING SNADVAL32 IS NOT ENOUGH, IF IT IS MISSING OR CORRUPT, SEVERAL THINGS MUST BE DONE AFTER REINSTALLING SNDVOL32. FIRST: START RUN TYPE Sandvol32.exe, which will install the file. if you do not have the file, you have to get it from MS. Second, once installed, YOU NEED TO ADJUST THE AUDIO/RECORDING PROPERTIES IN YOUR COMPUTER. Both Sound and recording are controled by this file. So, with a good copy of the file on file or in c: CLICK START/RUN brows select your copy ok open AND/or TYPE SNDVOL32.exe CLICK OK.

IN THE VOLUME CONTROL WINDOW MAKE SURE THAT NO MUTE BOXES ARE CHECKED, CLICK OPTION/PROPERTIES SELECT RECORDING. IN WINDOW SHOW THE FOLLOWING VOLUME CONTROLS "MAKE SHURE THAT ALL THE BOXED ARE CHECKED CLICK OK, PUT A CHECK MARK IN THE "SELECT" BOX FOR MICROPHONE BLANCE AND CLICK OPTIONS/EXIT.

THEN CHECK IT OUT, IN CONTROL PANEL, RECORDING, MULTIMEDIA, CLICK SOUND RCORDER, TEST, RECORD BY TALKING, THEN NEXT PLAY BACK IF IT WORKS HERE BOTH RECORDING AND SOUNDS SHOULD WORK WITH THE REST OF your OS AND PROGRAMS.
