Slow transfer CD to HD for large fi

Comment:
After a large file is transfered from hard drive or a bunch of small files....then my download speed slows to a claw. Just built comp. 512mB ram (266mgh) 40gig HD 2.4gigProc (800FSB w. Hyperthread tech) I don't understand what is happening. It almost seems like after my Ram fills up my transfer starts crawling.

Joe, Please re-phrase your question: it is unclear exactly what is happening when. Also, we need more info on
> the type of connection that slows down (dsl?cable?dial-up?an ethernet LAN?). > Your device controller type: IDE? SCSI? > Your devices attached to that controller and, if IDE, the channels each device is attached to
Check your pagefile (aka, unfortunately, "virtual memory") size & distribution.

You have a high powered system but you put a older ATA33 40gig hard drive in??? And you are surprised at a slow down? Is the cdrom slaved to this drive?
Want faster performance? Get a new hard drive. Improve performance? Put your cdrom on the second ide channel and the drive on the main ide channel.
Your xfers start off fast, I would suspect, due to caching on the drive, but once full your system "slows down" to a slower feed rate.
