My system Windows 2000 professional service pack 4 and AMD Athlon Processor with 392,688 KB RAM was working absolutely fine. But for the past 30 days, the general speed of windows has became v.slow. When I type my username n passwords or writing in some text box like this one the result appear after 1-2 seconds. when watching a movie in media player, frames are moving in slow motion mode, i mean v.slow. I have installed service pack 4 n all the other stuff but of no use. Please help me.

some things come to mind without further info on what you've checked

1) overheating - check your fans, heat sinks, etc; it wouldn't hurt to dust the inside of the case anyway

2) VIRUS/spyware or similar. Virus is easy check from emergency disks

3) bad/malfunctioning hardware such as hard drive, CPU, or memory

you could see if any services are hoging all the CPU runtime

press CTL +ALT + DEL when loged on and end any process that have a high CPU useage

if system idle procwess is 99-100 % this is ok and your problem is sumthing else try this first

Haven't dealt with the AMD in a while , but in the bios , If there is a setting for the L1 or L2 cache you may try to set it to Writeback , there should be another setting for , Writethru,

If that isn't it then you May download Memtest and test your memory modules..

MSI 845e mb 1 gb ram and a p4 2.4n running xp ,win 2000 advanced server and win 98 SE alot to learn and I know so little !!!!
