Hello Folks.
System has been running well for about 6 years but for the last three days I've been having a problem.
Opening a new window in IE6 takes between 3 and 4 minutes for it to load. Re-using an already open window is no problem.
Have re-installed IE6, ensured no viruses or spyware etc. but no improvement.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

Stuart

Clear all cookies and browser cache and try again.
IE uses a lot of harddisk space for caching, up to several hundred MBs.
You should also optimize such settings.

Thanks for reply Paul.
Alas, your suggestions come under the heading of "etc" in my original post. Maybe I should have been more explicit.
This one really has me flummoxed.

Paul,
I'm having the same problem on 2 PCs (work laptop and home desktop), both running IE6 w/Win2000. I have a suspicion it's Win2000 Hotfix KB944533, which I downloaded to both in mid-April -- which is when the problem surfaced.
Matt

Matt,
maybe that this Hotfix is the reason for it.
You know, IE is a big part of the Windows OS.
So every Hotfix for Windows could influence IE and vice versa.
The best solution is to don't use IE for internet browsing and it's mostly more secure.

Paul,
I just fixed it on one PC and am thrilled!!
I found a link suggesting I re-install Google toolbar... that alone did it. I never uninstalled the Hotfix.
Matt

Matt, thanks a million for that.
I've just uninstalled the Google toolbar and my Internet is back to normal operating speed.

Good to know.
I never installed an additional Toolbars.
Because you never know, what they are doing in background and what data will be transfered to the google server.
I my opinion such Toolbars are additional security risks.

^^agreed.

Greetings everyone
I am astonished that no-one suggested switching to Firefox.
It is smaller, faster and with all the add-ons available much safer.
Recommended are: Addblock Plus, No-script, Flash-Block.
There are hundreds of others available.Try it, you’ll like it.
Kind regards

Lol, I love people who bitch about IE's so called 'lack of security', and yet, they suggest we all download Firefox and install a million addons to perform features which IE and even mostly Opera has native. Security Zones, GPO's, restriction options, etc.
So it's obviously more secure to install a third party product and pile on loads more third party bits of software. Great, cool, whatever.
