Slow Login from XP to 2000 domain

When I try to login to my windows 2000 domain on my xp machine, it takes in the vacinity of 7 to 15 minutes.
It either sits on 'Loading Your Personal Settings' (if it is a new user) anad 'Applying your personaal settings' (if it is an existing user or a new user)
I have no profile set for the logon user(s) however it still takes this long...

Have a look at M-S support No Q257734. I had a simillar problem with W2k comps logging onto W2k server. Prob seemed to be with reading/writing to active directory.

try setting user profiles to 'default', and make sure network protocols are set to tcp/ip, and are at the top of the list. Sounds like its searching for a profile, and also seeking a protocol match. Either will slow the process, and slow it even more if combined.

None of those things really freed it up. However deep in a google search I found that setting the DNS server to the win2k server's DNS Server will speed up the login process, this worked!
