I have a 266 fsb, 1.2 ghz win2k machine, and, correct me if i am wrong but this thing should start up in a couple seconds. It doesn't, it is slower than my 233 running 98. Is there something wrong or is this just win2k? If so, microsoft is a sad sad company if all the new stuff runs slower than the old stuff. Is there anything i can do to make it faster, thanx

I'm no expert but..
-maybe u have too many things on your desktop -maybe u have too many start up programs on ur tray -maybe ur hd is very full -maybe u should consider buying more RAM
Those are the things that come to mind but it might be something else.

Josh, what's the actual time it takes this machine to boot up? A couple seconds as in 2 or 3 is a bit unrealistic.

Josh, WIn 2K and WIN 98 offer different services,... some of which load differently in WIn2K compared to WIn 98. I do not think the Processor makes the boot any faster, I think the OS and the BUS Speed is where boot ups slow things down!

If your Win 2K system is a domain controller, I have found that it will take considerably longer to boot up. For me, I'm running Windows 2000 Advanced Server on a 400 mhz server (custom built by my computer company), it will add about 20-30 minutes to startup.
