Last night I installed the Remote Installation Services on my 2000 Server; and, everything seems to work properly except the SIS Groveler (Single Instance Store) that makes certain that there are no redundant files in the image for one of your workstations. After adding the service through Add/remove programs I ran the risetup to configure the RIS service. I popped in the w2k pro disk to install an image it created it successfully. But, when getting to the part of running the service - I receive the error:
Error 1062: The service could not be started
Title: Single Instance Store GrovelerThe RIS server is on the same computer as the Domain controller, DNS Server, DHCP Server; so, it was already authorized to give out DHCP ip addresses to the computers that are trying to get an ip address when installing the image.
I have allowed all computers on my network the ability to get an image from the computer without any pre staging (getting the GUID of the computer and entering it into Active Directory to add the computer to your network).
Also, one more thing to note is the fact that I used my shared ntfs drive (slave drive on primary channel). I already have other files on this hard drive; but, documentation told me that I could still use it for RIS images storage.

I am having the exact same problem as Tim. Win2K server (DC, DNS, DHCP, etc,)
The SIS Groveler will not start. I was able to create and deply a CD based image, however, I cannot create RIPrep images. When RIPrep goes to copy files from the source machine, I get a halt that states "A required provilege is not held by the client".
Not sure if this is related to the Groveler service not starting, but seems to be more than a coincidence.
