I'm running Windows 2000 Prof. for about 5 month and sinds I have installed it I' ve never been able to shutdown my pc. If I use shutdown it restarts. Can any one help me.
Susil

Might be that your computer is automatically restarting on a "stop message." This is the default setting for Windows 2k.
To change this, right click on My Computer> Properties> Advanced tab> Click Startup and Recovery and clear the Automatically reboot checkbox
good luck, HTH

I had a problem similar to this. After MUCH frustration, I ended reloading W2K. I thought I would have to reload from scratch, but it turned out there was an upgrade option (for upgrading from W98). I checked the info and found out it saves your settings, so I ran the upgrade and it cleared up the problem. You might try that if you are still experiencing the shutdown problem.

haha, I have the exact same problem!! Ive allready reformatted w2k 4 times, and have narrowed it down to some aspi drivers. I tried to install easy cd creator 4, and apparently it is not completely compatible. this last time tho, its still doing it, and i haven't installed ecdc. but i installed some type of update, and i believe it had some type of aspi update (and we all know Adaptec does). anyway that's my 2 cents. hope this helps anyone out, because its about to drive me crazy

like everyone else who posted under you, i have had the same problem. After searching through numerous forums (including this one) i finally found something that helped me and didnt involve any hassles at all (ie. formatting, reinstalling, updating BIOS, etc.). All i did was a force shutdown in win2k. Do this by holding down the "Ctrl" key while you click the "Yes" button to shut down. Hopefully it will shut all the way down and continue to do so with multiple tries. After i had done this, i was able to shutdown completely. Hope this works for you.
