my win2k ver 2195 did not want to shut down
it stop an say ! now you can turn off your computer what's happeningsorry for my enghish but i am a french man !!!!!!!!!!!

tu peux toujours regarder un peu plus bas dans ce forum, il y a quelqu'un qui explique comment faire, mais en voici une copie
poxwer down on win2000 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\PowerDownAfterShutDown to 1Mais sincerement j'ai essayé et cela n'a pas fonctionné pour moi.
A+

The reply basically says - in response to the question, add the following registry entry - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\PowerDownAfterShutDown to 1
[continued translation - I think this is accurate] I tried it but it didn't work for me.
anyone, feel free to correct my French - It's been about 6 years since I used any of it. And that was only in school

I tried both the registry hack and the following :
Go to Control Panel - Power Options - APM
And then turn on the Advanced Power Management support. That did the trick for me

I have an Asus P5A motherboard. I tried to modify the registry AND to enable APM in Control Panel but Win2k still reboots instead of powering down.
Does someone know about another "tip" to make that ShutDown command work properly?

Nounours... Do u have an AT machine or ATX?
Mine is AT; when 2k is first installed it says you can now turn off your computer when I choose shutdown. After a while though it just restarts. Is this a bug in 2k or have I not set something up?Thanx in advance... J

maybe my problem is a little bit different
all i want to know is how to shut down w2k automatically by using rundll or sth. just like in w95/8

Hello All,
Only if you can see 'Advance Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)'PC in Computer and Advance Power Management support in System device under Device Manager then your mainboard is able to shutdown win 2k server (advance server)
Hihihih, I am sure you can't see these funkions in Device Manager, if yes you wouldn't read this.
Some ATX mainboard only needs a Bios update with the mention functions and then it works.
I also tried with the regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\PowerDownAfterShutDown 0 to 1, doesn't work. This is a problem with all NT based OS. I had a ATX mainboard without ACPI and APM, and had that problem in win NT and solve it so: Copy HAL.DLL.SOFTEX from Service Pack 4, NT changed it to HAL.DLL. The orginal HAL.DLL changed to HAL.DLL.OLD. (in WINNT\SYSTEM32)
I have not tested it with win 2 k yet. Maybe it works. Remember, if it doens't work like NT, to change it back.
If all that dons't work get a new mainboard.
Cheers

Hey there!
I have the Asus P5A and it IS ACPI compliant although I can't see it in the power mang. If I disable the APM function it give the message it's now safe to turn... which is normal. When I turn it on though, it restarts instead of shutting down....
all win2k patches are installed...
Any idea?
