Comment: Hi, I am the only user of my computer with win 2k sp-2. I am the administrator and there are no other users mentioned in profiles. However, not always but frequently it does not allow me to change the names of the folders, or to delete some files and says "there is a sharing vioalation and the source is in use" but it is not. Even when I am using only explorer and there is no other open windows it gives me the same message. Any suggestions coming from you would be greatly appreciated.

Reply: (edit)It all depends on what files and folders you are trying to change. The system itself needs access permissions to certain files in order to function. So you could possibly change the permissions and disable the entire system. If you can't change normal files that you've created yourself and KNOW to be empty of system files then REpost, if you're trying to change permissions of files and folders that the system has to access, don't. My two cents worth anyways.....

Reply: (edit)Thanks for your response Lucid. No the files and folders that I am trying to change are not system or program files at all. Simple folders that I create during my downloads, and after emptying them I just wanna delete them that's all.

Reply: (edit)Best bet then is to check the permissions for the folder in question, and set them accordingly (letting child permissions to inherit parent properties as well) HTH

Reply: (edit)hmm, this is fairly easy to recreate, just create a folder, put a file in it and delete the file, not the folder, then go up a directory and try to delete the folder, you get a sharing violation as if you were deleting a file/folder in use by another user, ive had this problem since i started using win2000, there is no permissions to be set for the folder as it isnt shared
