Hello mates!
Well, this is my scenario. Right now I have a fully functional network running just fine. However, I am redesigning it for learning purposes and just to play around.
I now have setup a Windows 2000 Server machine, which I made the Domain Controller, and I want this machine to be the main pc so to speak.
I have two NICs in it, and I want to share DSL using this pc. I have a 4-port switch.
I know you can share Internet using ICS, RAS (or RRAS?), Using a Proxy like ISA Server, and third-party software.
However, what do you guys/gals think is the best way to go?
Keep in mind that I'm setting up my new network to "simulate" a network in a company, etc.
I will be configuring Group Policies, Roaming Profiles, etc. etc. I will also be installing SolarWinds to monitor/troubleshoot the network.I would really appreciate any other ideas you guys have to setup my network or things I can do ... because I like learning new things.
The computers on my network will be:
-Win XP Pro
-RedHat 7.3
-Novell Netware 4.1
-Win 98
-Win 2000 server (this is my main pc)

if you are using w2k active directory which sounds like you are
just have the 1 nic in the dc, and have a seperate w2k with isa on top as a gateway to the internet, isa is a pretty good firewall and dont recommend putting it on a dc, shouldnt realy have that as a firewall / internet gateway. if you configurte the isa wrong, you would be open to alsorts of security issues.
put isa on w2k as a gateway, have a seperate dc behind the isa with the rest of the network.
good to learn isa, it is stacked with all sorts of stuff, mail filters etc.
hope helps you
mark
ps win98 wont work with a w2k dc
