How do I use a hub to share the internet. If I connect them both up at the same time and the DSL to the Uplink where it needs to be, it gets (IP address already in use) or something like that. Please help.

You can share the bandwidth with a hub, but not a ip address. There are two ways to do this:

-either get anothe ip addr from your isp (most likely not, right)

-use your ics (internet connection sharing) in the network perporties. I believe that this functionality is only on xp home and pro.

-or buy a NAT router that does all the ip addr assign for you (dhcp function).

hope that helps

You can use ICS with Win98 upwards and works very well. Note that you can't use things like MSN Messenger on the secondary computer.

Do I need two nic cards in one pc or what.

The A+ manual and what I can find online aren't very helpful

Although many folks use ICS to share their isp (be it dun/dsl/cable), ideally it's better to share an isp (especially if it's dsl/cable) without using ICS. ICS effectively requires the host PC (that runs ICS) to be active (on) to service any clients; and clients 'can' degrade performance of Host system when accessing the isp. Sharing dsl/cable can be done other ways; typically an access-router is the most efficient way to go - and there are some inexpensive units around these days (D-Link/Netgear/SMC to name three sources).

If your dsl is USB based then even that is no longer a serious limitation; there are access-routers that can handle that service too...

Suggest you check out:

http://www.dslreports.com

covers most of the usual methods of sharing dls/cable.

Also a browse around:

and

http://www.practicallynetworked.com

will give you some useful info.

Also ensure you have a firewall invoked/installed when on-line.
