We have 3 computers and each has ethernet card. We would like to set up a DSL and share it between the 3 PCs without buying any additional hub or router. Please help

Check out Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router, it's a simple way to do what you want. Probably others out there. I've been using Linksys for about a year with no problems.

If you are running windows 2000 Professional, you will need two network cards in one of the PCs to run internet connection sharing properly. If you have windows 2000 server, then you can use routing and remote access connections to make a router using just one network card. You are most likely going to have to buy at least another network card unless you want to spend the money on windows 2000 server. Or, do as the guy above says and get a cable/dsl router. I have a netgear one that works great and is very simple. They make one with a four port switch built into it.

Hi,

I agree with Dan. Buy an Ethernet card and
plug it in one of your 3 PCs that has Win2K
installed. Use the new Ether to interface
with DSL and enable Internet Connection
Sharing on it. This is the least expensive
option.

I assume you have an Ethernet hub already
and your 3 PCs are already connected to it,
forming a LAN.

Some DSL modems are USB device. In that case,
you don't need this additional Ether card.

Good luck,
Dai

I purchased a LINKSYS dsl router and it was a painless install.

I de-installed the DSL software and everything else from then on was easy.

My main PC is a windows 2000 and my laptop is Windows 98 and both work great.

I am extremely happy with LINKSYS's solution, even my VPN software worked with NO changes.

Another Jack Daniels and water and I would be in heaven.

It really depends on your DSL provider to do what I did. I just bought a netgear DS104 hub, and plugged 2 win2k machines, a win98se laptop, and the dsl modem. Everything worked without making ANY changes. This works because my DSL provider (GTE) does not currently charge for extra IP addresses. I have 3 consectutive IP addresses for each PC. Also, I can take my laptop to work and connect to the company Network, without making ANY changes, other than to login. Other DSL providers will charge from $5 to $10 for each additional IP address.
